N.E.R.D. headed by Pharrell Williams, Kygo, Jessie J, London Grammar, Grace Jones, Joss Stone, George Ezra, Paul Kalkbrenner, Cigarettes After Sex, Kaleo, Future Islands, Ziggy Marley, Aurora, Calexico, GusGus, Jon Hopkins, Beth Ditto, Seasick Steve, Mura Masa, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, HVOB, Algiers, Jacob Banks or Lucky Chops, … these are the main music draws of this year's Colours of Ostrava festival, which will take place from 18. until 21 December 2005. July in the unique industrial area of The Lower Vítkovice of Ostrava.
However, the Colours of Ostrava programme has never been only about the biggest stars, but also about discovering musical treasures from all over the world. "We have compiled the program to combine quality globally known names with a huge selection of real musical pearls considered to be essential musical events of interplay abroad," says Zlata Holušová.
In total, visitors can look forward to more than 350 program points on 21 open-air and indoor scenes. Of these over 120 bands and musicians of many genres – from electronics, to world music, rock, pop, soul to jazz – from around the world – from Australia and New Zealand, to South Korea, China, Iran, Colombia, Cuba, Jamaica, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Senegal, Ghana, Coast ivory, Mozambique, South Africa, to Iceland, USA, UK or Canada. Musical experiences will be found by visitors on the wild and energetic Drive stage, on the Fresh stage for the most interesting foreign projects that the organizers have seen at showcase shows, in the muted Gong, on the dance Electronic stage, alternative Full Moon stage or Busking stage designed for amateur musicians.
Czech names include kafka band, which will present the Czech premiere of the stage concert America based on franz kafka's unfinished novel, as well as Vojtěch Dyk & B-Side Band, Mig 21, Lenka Dusilová with Beata Hlavenkov and Dorota Barová, Animal named Autumn, Marie Rottrová, Boris Carloff, Jaroslav Uhlíř, FVTVRE, Lenny, Nylon Jail and dozens of others.
In addition to music, the program will also offer theatres (for example Jaroslav Dušek – Four Agreements, Cirk La Putyka, Bolka Polívka Theatre or VOSTO5), workshops, films or artistic activities. There will be no missing Czech TELEVISION scene and design zone with art work from the field of design, fashion and fine arts. In the "industrial" wine bar in the concrete bunker, the cimbalom will play again.
The Colours of Ostrava will be the third international discussion forum Meltingpot this year, which will offer 150 inspirational speakers from more than 25 countries of the world from different areas of social life on eight scenes. The first confirmed names are, for example, british peace activist, adviser and author of the bestseller The Businees Plan for Peace Scilla Elworthy. German doctor, therapist and well-known holistic medicine promoter Ruediger Dahlke talks about the balance of mental and physical health. The "futuristic monk," Frenchman Bruno Marion, advises on how to exploit the theory of chaos in practical life and to succeed in a world full of uncertainties. Renowned British physicist Geoffrey West explains, thanks to his groundbreaking scientific theory, that order in cities or companies is surprisingly governed by the same laws as all living organisms on our planet. Visitors can also look forward to American John Perkins, author of a bestseller about the true image of world politics, or To Amit Goswami, a theoretical quantum physicist who links natural science to philosophy and study of human consciousness. The writer Jáchym Topol, or the versatile popularizer of science Václav Cílek, will come from the Czechs.
Children up to 140 cm have free entry and in addition to the traditional friendly atmosphere, families with children will find a special ČEZ Family Park zone with theatres, workshops, climbing houses, games and nursing tents and the possibility of babysitting by trained assistants.
Visitor service includes a tent town near Silesian Ostrava Castle or landek park, ATMs, drinking water on the premises free of charge, reservation of places in gong hall in advance, large-area projections, bike rental of Kola pro Africa, grandstands, returnable nicknack cups, enhanced night public transport, official festival taxi, storage room, discounted entrances to interesting places throughout Ostrava under the Colours Plus programme and for disabled visitors the Colours project without barriers with extensive service.
